The Lost Receipt

My mother and I went to a ritzy shopping mall called The Galleria in Edina, Minnesota, so she could return something expensive, but she was afraid she had lost her receipt. She kept digging in her purse but couldn’t find it. She appeared frustrated and scared that she might be stuck with something she didn’t want anymore.

I really wanted to help her, so I said a little prayer quietly to myself. “Dear God, please help me find that receipt.” I expected divine guidance to prevail.

Then my consciousness shifted so I became aware of the wind blowing, and the easterly direction it was heading. I instantly knew that the receipt would be in the bushes off to the left side of the mall parking lot, but all I saw there was a white 8½-by-11-inch sheet of paper.

“Is it a small receipt?” I asked my mom.

“No,” she replied. “It’s a full-size sheet of paper.”

At this, I smiled and retrieved the page from under the shrubbery and happily gave the receipt to her.

“How did you know where to find it?”

“It wasn’t me. We got help from the wind.”
